Fused Glass Back Splash in Kitchen
This installation is composed of 4 panels of fused glass two layers thick to create a back splash with a smooth surface instead of using traditional ceramic tile or granite.
Gene Hester helped establish Genesis Art Glass Studio in July of 1976 and has been sole proprietor since January of 1977. During these 40 years, Gene has created hundreds and hundreds of stained glass panels for residential, commercial and liturgical installations.
The fused glass technique as seen above allows different glass colors to melt and fuse together rather than using lead came to seperate the colors in a traditional stained glass panel. The end product is a smooth fire polished surface at least ¼" thick.
This process can incorporate several layers of glass to form one to two inch thick slabs to be used as counter tops in kitchens or bathrooms. Sculptural items are formed in the same way and then bent to the desired shape.
